About

Burial site for victims of a local smallpox epidemic in the mid-1890s. Around 1894, these people were among 125 African-Americans wanting to bring a cotton crop economy to Mexico, by way of Eagle Pass. Although the number of dead was reported to be 26, it is unclear exactly how many graves are at this spot. It is also uncertain whether those buried here were ever marked, or if names were ever known for them.
