Central Texas Black Families Ancestor Project

With the creation of the Central Texas Black Families Ancestor Project, we hope to identify new connections between descendants who may have retained the histories of their ancestors and those who have not.

From Freedom Colonies like St John and Clarksville to communities in East Austin and McClennan County, Black folks have created lasting legacy. By coupling the familial connections of our shared genetic ancestry with ancestral narratives of oral histories, burial grounds, and records, we hope to restore and share the collective stories of Central Texas' African-American families.
